Re-employment services launched for employees affected by Sitton closure
Sitton Motor Lines of Joplin announced its closure with layoffs starting this week and running through mid-December. The Workforce Investment Board deployed its Rapid Response Team with the Missouri Career Center to quickly connect Sitton and its employees with services to ease the difficulty of the employment transitions.
Rapid Response team members are scheduled to meet confidentially with Sitton employees onsite at the company in meetings set for 2:30 and 3:45 p.m. on Monday, November 9th. The meetings provide an orientation to Career Center services that assist with re-employment needs. Such services include information and recent changes on applying for unemployment insurance, assistance for job searches, potential training opportunities at no cost to the job seeker or employer, and options for career exploration, among others.
The Rapid Response team includes representatives from the Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Division of Workforce Development in Jefferson City, the Missouri Division of Employment Security in Jefferson City, and the Southwest Missouri Workforce Investment Board in Joplin. The team quickly deploys Career Center resources confidentially to displaced workers that assist in career transitions and reduce the impact of layoffs.
For employees not able to attend Monday’s meeting, job counselors from the Missouri Career Center are available to meet with employees individually as needed. The Joplin Career Center may be reached at 417-629-3000 and is located at 8th and Wall Avenue. Several video resources are posted online at www.jobseekerhelp.biz to provide information on demand.
